Current and former VIDEOTON executives gathered in Kaposvár on 29 September for a very special occasion. András Gerber, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, has decided to retire after 55 years with our company. His active career will officially come to an end at the end of October.

Few careers are so closely intertwined with the history of a company. András Gerber joined the Kaposvár plant in 1971. Over the past 55 years, he has witnessed its continuous development. As an executive, he has also played an active role in shaping it.

At the event, András was greeted by Péter Lakatos and Ottó Sinkó, CEOs of VIDEOTON Holding, as well as Balázs Fábián and Levente Pálca, Managing Directors of the Kaposvár company. The occasion also provided an opportunity to look back together on more than half a century of change.

From a cornfield to today’s factory

During the conversation, András recalled the early days. When he started working at the company in 1971, the site of today’s industrial park was still a cornfield, while construction of the factory was well underway.

Since then, almost everything has changed. New technologies have been introduced, new products have entered production, organisations have been transformed, and generations of employees have followed one another.

However, András highlighted one thing in particular: it has always been the team that provided the foundation for progress. In his view, behind the achievements of every era were the people whose knowledge, commitment and hard work helped move the company forward.

55 years in pictures

Fortunately, countless memories from the past decades have been preserved. A special video was created from thousands of photographs, presenting some of the most important milestones of András’s career.

The old images brought back colleagues, production activities, events, business meetings and everyday moments from across the decades. During the screening, touching moments alternated with laughter, as old photographs brought back stories and memories.

Personal Memories and Gifts

The leaders of VIDEOTON Holding marked the occasion with a special gift, while the Kaposvár management prepared several personal surprises for András.

He received a photo book compiled from pictures spanning the past decades, as well as a painting created especially for the occasion. Alongside András, the painting features characteristic motifs from the history of the Kaposvár factory. His 55-year anniversary was also recognised with a long-service commemorative plaque and certificate.

And since András had celebrated his 80th birthday just a few days earlier, there was, of course, a birthday cake as well. The event concluded with a champagne toast.

Although András will continue working with us until the end of October, an extraordinary chapter is gradually drawing to a close.

Thank you András for the past 55 years. We wish you good health and all the very best for your retirement!
