There are few careers so closely intertwined with the history of a company. András Gerber joined the Kaposvár factory in 1971, and over the 55 years since then, he has not only witnessed its development but, as a leader, has also shaped it himself.

At Tuesday’s event, András was welcomed by Péter Lakatos and Ottó Sinkó, CEOs of VIDEOTON Holding. Balázs Fábián and Levente Pálca, managing directors of the Kaposvár-based company, also paid tribute to him. The event also provided an opportunity to look back together on the changes that have taken place over more than half a century.

From a cornfield to today’s factory

During the conversation, András also recalled the very beginnings. When he started working in 1971, there was a cornfield on the site of today’s industrial park, and the construction of the factory was in full swing.

Since then, almost everything has changed. New technologies have been introduced, new products have gone into production, organisations have been restructured, and generations of employees have succeeded one another.

However, András emphasised one thing in particular: the team has always provided the foundation necessary for progress. In his view, behind the achievements in every era there were people who, through their knowledge and hard work, drove the company forward.

55 years in pictures

Fortunately, a lot of memories have survived from the past decades. A special video, selected from thousands of photographs, was created to present András’ most significant milestones. The old footage showed a succession of colleagues, productions, events, business meetings and everyday moments. During the screening, moments of emotion alternated with laughter. Each old photograph brought back another story or memory.

Personal Memories and Gifts

The leaders of VIDEOTON Holding marked the occasion with a special gift. The Kaposvár management prepared several personal surprises for András.

He received a photo book compiled from pictures spanning the past decades. He also received a painting created especially for the occasion. Alongside András, the painting features characteristic motifs from the history of the Kaposvár factory. His 55-year anniversary was also recognised with a long-service commemorative plaque and certificate.

András had celebrated his 80th birthday just a few days earlier. So there was, of course, a birthday cake as well. The event concluded with a champagne toast.

András will continue working with us until the end of October. However, an extraordinary chapter is gradually drawing to a close.
